A lovely first edition thus. This is number 2 of 1250 copies produced.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, and nine further colour plates, retaining their original tissue guards, and with full page illustrations between chapters. Collated, complete.
These illustrations are the work of American avant-garde illustrator and artist Clara Tice.
With the booksellers label of Harry F. Marks to the rear pastedown.
First published in 1898 as La Femme et le Pantin, this is the work of Belgian poet and writer Pierre-Félix Louÿs, renowned for his lesbian and classical themes.
CONDITION
In a half morocco binding, with paper covered boards, and gilt detailing to back strip. Back strip lightly age toned, with significant rubbing to front joint, and light rubbing to rear joint. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Booksellers label to rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned to perimeters, otherwise exceptionally clean and bright.
